LPRESERVES AND MONUMENTS OF NATURE

• The "Boianu" Bustards Preserve-(near the villages of Nicolae Titulescu, Valeni, Seaca). The bustards were a very appreciated hunting in the past, so their number is very reduced nowadays, making necessary their sheltering inside preserves. The main territory in Romania with a bustard population is the Boian Field;
• The Topana Forest-forest preserve, near Topana village, with trees of impressive heights;
• The Geaca Optasani Forest-(48 km away from Pitesti), forest preserve near the villages of Poboru and Spineni.

HISTORICAL VILLAGES

• Vestiges of the Roman Town "Romula"-Resca (north of Caracal), on the place of an old Geto-Dacian settlemen, Malava. It became a "municipium" (in times of Adrian) and a "colonia" (in times of Septimius Severus). Today one can see the ruins of the buildings, temples and baths;
• Ruins of Voivodal Court-Caracal, residence of voivodes in the times of Michael the Brave (16th century), Matei Basarab and Constantin Brancoveanu;
• The Ruins of Sucidava Fortress-Celei Corabia, ancient Geto-Dacian settlement, on the place of an older one belonging to Cotofeni Culture, the 3rd millenium B.C. Later the fortress became an important Roman military and economical centre as well as harbour becoming town in 250 A.D. It was an important urban centre in the Roman-Byzantine period;
• Ruins of Voivodal Court-Brancoveni (17th-18th centuries).

RELIGIOUS BUILDINGS

• Brancoveni Monastery-(15 km away from Piatra Olt), it was built in the 16th century, the first documentary mention dates since 1582-1583. It was rebuilt by Matei Basarab in 1640 and by Constantin Brancoveanu in 1699. The wall painting was made in 1702;
• Caluiu Monastery-the Oboga village, began by boyards Craiovesti in 1516 and finished by Buzesti brothers in 1588. The church tower is the dominant component of the building. The portraits of the founders are painted on walls. The monument was restored on various occasions losing its original structure;
• Hotarani Monastery-the Farcasele village, it was built in 1588 by chancellor Mitrea, painted in 1708, today a museum;
• Clocociov Monastery-it was built by Michael the Brave (1594);
• Streharet Monastery-important monument for the 17th century architecture (1672);
• "SaintTrinity" Church-Caracal (1646).

CULTURAL BUILDINGS

• "Iancu Jianu" Memorial House-Caracal, it is set up in the house of the famous outlaw exhibiting several items and weapons illustrating his struggle agianst the opression of the boyards;
• "Nicolae Titulescu" Memorial House-Nicolae Titulescu, it exhibits various documents and personal objects of the great Romanian politician.
